Ready For The Floor

Wonderous electronic Britster's Hot Chip have delivered on the promise of their last release 'The Warning' with 'Ready For The Floor' the first official single from forthcoming LP 'Made In The Dark' (due 4th of Feb on EMI). It's a catchy electro-pop dancefloor filler, and the find of thing that grows on you with each listen. I'd be prepared to say it even tops 'Over and Over', the most popular track from their last album.

Also below is 'Shake a Fist', another song from the new album which is a far darker, balls-out, raving stomper of a choon. Watch out, because Hot Chip are ready to blow up next year.

Black Mountain

Black Mountain's self-titled debut was a restrained rock & roll bluesy record, whose focus on repetition and minimalism seperated them from pop-rock acts such as Wolfmother who harked back to a sweeter earlier time when Led Zep populated the airwaves.

Their second album 'In The Future' (due out jan 22nd 2008 on Jagjaguwar) pushes the envelope to a wider vision. 'Tyrants' squeezes a range of retro influences into an 8 minute mish-mash monster, with a recorder ensemble nicked straight from 'Stairway To Heaven', massive epic wailing vocals and metal riffery. It even manages room for synths. It stinks of Sabbath and its bloody brilliant, even if it is totally ridiculous.

The other track here is also on the 'Spider-man 3' soundtrack, which sets it off to a bad start from the off, but it reveals the other side of the record as a poppier light relief to its heavier elements, and as a delicious starry-eyed acoustic ballad it fits perfectly.
